The terms used across the toolkit.
Terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| CRQC | Short for a quantum computer with enough error-corrected qubits to run Shor's algorithm on keys in real use. There is none so far. |
| KEM | Key encapsulation: two parties end up with one shared secret, using only the receiver's public key. |
| ML-KEM | The FIPS 203 KEM, from CRYSTALS-Kyber. |
| ML-DSA | Lattice signatures standardized in FIPS 204 (formerly CRYSTALS-Dilithium). |
| SLH-DSA | Signatures from FIPS 205, built only on hash functions (formerly SPHINCS+). |
| Exposed key | A public key that anyone can read or recover from the chain. |
| Harvest now, decrypt later | Storing someone's ciphertext now, betting that its key exchange can be broken some day. |
| Security category | NIST's rating of a parameter set against AES key search or SHA-256 collisions (1, 2, 3, 5). |
| Lattice | A regular grid of points in many dimensions; finding short or close vectors in it is the hard problem under ML-KEM and ML-DSA. |
| Ward | A Kibora safe where transfers out wait a delay and a guardian can cancel or evacuate. |
| Haven | The single address a ward can evacuate to. |
| SIWE | Sign-In with Ethereum (EIP-4361): a plain-text login message signed by a wallet. |
